DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) has been set up with the vision to be a world pioneer in applied knowledge of government administration and be committed to the advancement of good public governance in Dubai, UAE and the Arab World by serving as a knowledge platform for producing applied research, the dissemination of best practice and empowering of leaders and policy makers. The School was established in 2005 under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.

The role of the Director of Research is to assist the Dean in increasing the research profile across the faculty and research initiatives, ensuring excellence in the quality of research conducted and in the standards and quality of research supervision and training.

Role:
  • Foster the development of an active research culture within the school;
  • Promote and develop stronger links between research and teaching in the faculty;
  • In conjunction with the Executive President and the Dean contribute to the development of the school's research strategies and policies;
  • In consultation with Heads of Research Initiatives prepare a faculty research plan.
  • Mentor and/or arrange mentoring for researchers in relation to best practices in the field ;
  • Engage with industry, government and the wider community to establish networks that may contribute to the enhanced research opportunities and outcomes;
  • Participate in the recruitment, development and retention of researchers;

Required Qualifications & Expertise:
  1. Ph.D. in any relevant field.
  2. Current knowledge and experience in higher education research and research administration.
  3. At least 7 years of experience in leading, supervising and managing the research activities of the comparative institution of Public Policy and Governance.
  4. Proven track record of academic competency and published scholarship.
  5. Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills at school/university level.
  6. Strong team building skills and the ability to work effectively and collegially with others.
  7. Highly developed skills in written and oral communication, human relations, and creative problem solving.
  8. Strong strategic planning skills with an ability to identify problems areas, to develop and implement strategies for change.
  9. Effective communications skills in English and preferably Arabic.

DEAN

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) was established in 2005 with the vision to become a pioneer in the application of knowledge to government administration and policy. This is a strategic-academic leadership appointment with significant cross-institutional responsibility together with a high level of external engagement. The Dean will lead the development and delivery of all academic programs, research, executive education,consultancy and innovation.

Role:
  • Provide leadership of academic, administrative, developmental and fiscal planning support for the School’s Academic, Executive Education and Research Departments while serving as a member of the Executive President’s senior administrative team.
  • Develop and maintain strong public relations in order to enhance the image of the School in the total community so that credibility and reputation of the School can be further enhanced.
  • Develop and reinforce the academic policy, plans, strategies, objectives, regulations, and bylaws.
  • Provide support for aspects of program growth specifically through strategic and operational planning guidance.
  • Research new academic opportunities, identify likely ventures, develop strategic plans and undertake presentations to and negotiations with prospective customers in order to maximize revenues and enhance the viability of the operations.
  • Take the lead in planning and developing all academically related conferences, forums and roundtables as determined by the School’s Academic Council.

Required Qualifications & Expertise:
  1. Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy or a relevant field.
  2. At least 10 years of experience in leading, supervising and managing the activities of a comparable institution of Public Policy and Governance.
  3. Proven track record of academic competency and research.
  4. Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills at School/university level.
  5. Commitment to continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
  6. Ability to exercise a collaborative style of management.

RESEARCH FELLOWS

The Mohamed Bin Rashid School of Government (formerly Dubai School of Government) has openings for experienced researchers with a strong policy focus and teaching interests on topics relevant to the mission of the school.

We are currently accepting applications for Research Fellows and Senior Research Fellows with interests and expertise in the following areas:
  • Public Economics
  • Research Methods, including opinion research and polling
  • Policy Assessment and/or Program Evaluation
  • Boards and Governance
  • Leadership
  • Policy Development
  • Risk Management
  • Stakeholder Engagement 
  • Women’s, family and parenting issues
  • Youth Empowerment

Responsibilities of the position include the following elements:
  1. Conduct methodologically sound research studies on essential questions relevant to issues of effective policy and governance in the UAE or the wider Middle East
  2. Develop policy briefs, reports and other publications—preferably peer reviewed—that provide useful inputs to the policy-making process
  3. Engage with policy makers to provide policy ideas and advice 
  4. Organize public events to promote policy dialogue among experts and stakeholders
  5. Develop teaching cases illustrating concepts relevant to public administration and policy in the Gulf Region
  6. Serve on committees or undertake other assignments to advance the quality of instruction or advance the reputation of the School  in the greater Middle East
  7. Collaborate with other faculty and research colleagues to develop new programs, new offerings in executive education and other initiatives that will enhance effective governance in the Region
Eligibility to apply is based on the following requirements:
  1. A masters-level degree in public administration, policy or a related area (a doctorate is strongly preferred)
  2. Ability to write effectively in English; Arabic ability would be a decided advantage
  3. Evidence of research proficiency based on a strong publication record 
  4. An orientation toward the application of theory to policy practice (experience at a think tank or other policy analysis group is preferable)
  5. Experience leading or mentoring junior researchers or graduate students
  6. An attitude of collegiality, contribution and cooperation in building the reputation of the School

PROFESSORS

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (formerly Dubai School of Government) is expanding and is pleased to announce openings for faculty members at the Assistant/Association/Full Professor levels. Candidates should have a long-term interest in the Middle East and be prepared to conduct research on specific topics related to building government capacity in the region. Our language of instruction is English, but the ability to speak Arabic would be an asset.
 
We are seeking colleagues with research interests and teaching expertise in the following areas:

  4. Maintain an active research agenda and publish in distinguished peer-reviewed outlets  on topics relevant to government excellence in the UAE, GCC or the wider MENA region
  5. Develop teaching cases illustrating concepts relevant to public administration and policy
  6. Lead committees and undertake other assignments to advance the quality of instruction or promote the reputation of MBRSG  in the GCC and MENA
  7. For Full Professor: Mentor junior faculty and research colleagues in the development of new research directions
Eligibility to apply is based on the following requirements:
 
  1. An earned doctoral degree from a respected, accredited university in public administration, public policy, public economics or other  related areas
  2. Demonstrated excellence in teaching students at the graduate level
  3. An established reputation for excellence in research and extensive publication of works relating theories of governance to practice
  4. Evidence of research in the form of publications 
  5. Demonstrated collegiality and contribution to the work of a team, including the mentoring of junior faculty and/or graduate students
