High Impact Practices (HIP) Interaction for Andragogical Engagement

The notion of student engagement has been studied extensively in the literature since the mid 1990’s. In more recent years the conceptual understanding of the term has been mainly aligned with pedagogical approaches which foster cognitive investment and active participation in learning in order to increase student satisfaction and academic attainment. With the increasing demography of mature students undertaking degrees, it is imperative that a more nuanced approach to the concept of student engagement is explored to included adult learners. Transformative education which empowers adult learners in a volatile world is now an important societal resource. This can be achieved through High Impact Practices (HIP) which have proven to be optimize learning for a wide-cross section of the global Higher Education community. This interactive presentation will explore how HIP can enhance adult learning and improve the achievement gap across adult student populations.
