UAE's digital transformation, began in 2000 with the e-government, in 2013 moved to m-government and is now entering the next phase - the AI-enabled government. While the pace of AI-adoption is rapid, pushed by the pandemic, regulations alone cannot ensure ethical and responsible AI systems. Hence, each government organization must do its part. This is difficult as globally we find that government decision makers are not equipped for the challenges. They often have superficial knowledge of AI, or decision making is obscured through sub-contracting, or the design of the product is complex, using data or AI programs from various providers. More importantly they are unaware of negative impact and hence do not have robust systems in place. The purpose of this talk is to create awareness of what is AI, and some critical governance challenges. This short talk is based on my new forthcoming book: The AI Enabled Business: A Smart Kit.
