Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBSRG) has released the first report of the Knowledge and Policy Council (KPC) titled ‘UAE Leadership School’, examining the concept of leadership in the UAE and outlining ways in which leadership is delivered. It also charts the UAE’s efforts in developing the leaders of tomorrow to ensure the continuity of excellence.
 
The new report highlights the issues and ideas discussed during the council's first meeting in March 2014. Highlighting the efforts and achievements of the first and second generation leaders in laying the foundations of a modern country, the report also documents the role and best practices of key executive administrators. In addition to shedding light on the leadership programs available in the UAE, the report highlights the need to periodically assess these programs on individual, institutional and government levels according to set criteria that include efficiency, productivity, effectiveness and sustainability.
 
The first Knowledge and Policies Council meeting was attended by His Excellency Ali Rashid Al Ketbi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tawteen Council and member of Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government’s board of trustees, Dr Ali Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government and His Excellency Abdulla Al Basti, Director General of the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. 
 
Her Excellency Huda Al Hashimi, Executive Director of Strategy and Policy in the Prime Minister's Office, Major General Dr Abdul Quddus Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidly, Director General at the Directorate General of Total Quality Performance at Dubai Police, His Excellency Dr Rashid Al Leem, Director General, Sharjah Department of Seaports and Customs and Sharjah Free Zones Authority, and His Excellency Ahmed Mehri, Assistant Secretary-General for Executive Affairs Council and the Secretariat in the emirate of Dubai also participated in the pilot meeting.
 
Dr Ali Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government, said: "KPC’s first report offers a summary of the discussions and issues addressed at the meeting, and will serve as a definitive resource for students in the UAE and government entities wishing to contribute to the leadership building process of our young nation. The report will also benefit residents and entrepreneurs interested in learning about best practices in leadership.
 
"This report is the first of a series that will be issued by the council on topics that will be announced over successive months. Articulating the insights and recommendations of experts such as government officials and executives who participate in the KPC meetings, the reports will  serve as a ready reckoner for stakeholders engaged in shaping a knowledge environment that benefits all citizens and residents of the UAE. The content of the reports will be equally valuable to international entities seeking to learn from the UAE’s leadership experiences.”
 
The Knowledge and Policies Council provides insights and recommendations on areas that impact the cooperation and development of government performance, while enhancing personal and institutional communication to facilitate intra-governmental relations. The council is also mandated to highlight priority issues and public policy matters relevant to both the community and the government.
 
Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government is committed to promoting good governance in the UAE and the Arab world through improving leadership skills in the field of public policy formulation. The approach is based on four themes involving the preparation of applied research in the field of public policy and governance, providing academic programs, executive education programs, as well as forums devoted to cognitive researchers and decision-makers.
